A lot of times readers will ask, “Why doesn’t your Windows 7 tip work on my Windows 7 computer?” or “Why doesn’t the screenshot for that article about Windows 7 look the same as my computer?” Sometimes even, “Why doesn’t a program that says it’s compatible with Windows 7 work on my computer?”
The answer: There are actually 6 different editions of Windows 7. Most users have either Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional.

Home Premium was aimed at home users. But there is also Windows 7 Starter – which is limited to 32-bit and has fewer features. You can’t even change the wallpaper. Windows 7 Home Basic was sold outside of the United States and actually has geographic restrictions for activation.
Window 7 Professional was intended for businesses as was Windows 7 Enterprise, which was sold in volume licenses to businesses.
Windows 7 Ultimate has most of the same features as Windows Enterprise, but was sold to home users.
To add to the confusion, many who bought one type of Windows 7 were able to upgrade to another. So the Windows 7 you’re running now might not be the versions you started with.

My new desktop came with Windows 7 installed. How do I find d out what version of windows 7 I have? It does seem to lack a lot of the usual windows options I have had in the past
To find what version of Win7 you are running, just click the Windows button in left lower corner of your desktop, then right click “Computer” and click “Properties”.It will show your version of Win7, bit info-32 or 64, if you have “Service pack 1” or not, and more.
