Windows 10 is bringing a big change to the way Microsoft does business. Now, users download Windows 8.1 software and apps from the Windows store, music from the Xbox Music App, and videos from the Xbox Video App. In Windows 10 all of these purchases will come from a unified Windows Store.
You’ll be able to access your purchase from all of your Windows devices and your Xbox One. Microsoft is very keen on the idea of universal apps. A buyer can purchase an app and use it across PC, Xbox One, tablet and phone.
The interfaces may be different to suit the device, but you’ll be able to pick up a document or a movie right where you left off and move seamlessly between devices.
If you’ve already purchased digital videos in the Xbox Video app you will be able to watch them all of your Windows 10 devices and on your Xbox one.
This coincides with Microsoft offering a substantial discount on combining subscriptions to Office 365 Home Office Suite, Xbox Live Gold gaming, Xbox Music Pass and Skype Unlimited.
Office 365 gives you access to the Microsoft Suite of office programs across five device, Xbox Live Gold gaming allows you to use multi-player aspects of games and to play other content on your Xbox, the Xbox Muisc Pass is a paid streaming service similar to Spotify that also lets you purchase music. Skype Unlimited lets Skype users call landline and mobile phones in addition to making video calls within the Skype app.
Right now this unified store is available in the Windows 10 Technical Preview, but should be fully up and running by the time Windows 10 makes it debut later this summer.
