Facebook: A New Way To Tag Kids (Or Pet) Photos

Facebook has introduced a new way or organizing photos of your children on the popular social media site.  Facebook Product Manager, Dan Barak, says he was inspired by all the photographs he posted of his newborn son. He found those photos were getting scattered across various albums where he and his wife posted and he wanted to come up with a centralized way to keep track of those baby photos.

Since a baby can’t have a Facebook account, you can’t really tag a child in a photo. Facebook found that 65% of people simply tagged the other parents in the photo in order for their friends to be able to view the shots .

What they’ve come up with is a way to create a special tag that will add your photos to a scrapbook.  You can choose a special tag to share with friends and family.

Once you create the scrapbook, you can be a co-owner with your spouse (as long as you’re in relationship with that person on Facebook.)

What you call the tag is up to you. It can actually be the child’s name or just a nickname you like to use. Then you and the other parent pick which photos to tag. Only parents can tag the photos.

To start a scrapbook, go to your Facebook profile and , then choose About.

Then click Family & Relationships.

You’ll have the option to add the child’s name or nickname to your profile.  Notice you can also add a pet.

I entered my cat’s name. Since my FB status is married, I was asked if I wanted to allow my husband to tag the cat as well.

No one else will be able to tag my cat (or your child) and friends that can see our photos will be able to see photos of the cat.

Now I can add a photo of my pet/kid and tag them.

I click Tag photos.

You can now go through and tag photos already on Facebook of your child or pet and they will be added to the scrapbook.
