iPod Touch Gets An Upgrade

Just when it looked like Apple’s iPod was down for the count, the company is giving the iPod touch its first update in three years. Apple hasn’t shown much interest in the device that launched the digital music revolution for a long time. They even removed iPods from the featured products section of their website.

Now they are upgrading the device, which basically functions like a smartphone minus the phone connection. iPod sales have fallen drastically over the past few years. Seven years ago, Apple sold almost 55 million iPds, last year they sold 14 million.  The main culprit is the smartphone, people can choose to listen to their music on there and save carrying an extra device around.

So what’s new in this updated iPod Touch?  First of all, you’ve got a selection of bright colors: silver, blue, pink and gold.

Apple has updated both the chip to speed up the device and make it more suitable for game play and also the display – the new iPod touch will feature the Retina display. The company says this new chip is up to 10 times faster.

The camera is improved as well. The new iSight camera offers 8 megapixels and as features like slo-mo and improved face detection for shots. The front-facing camera has been upgraded to HD for better video chatting.

The price on this new model starts at $199 for a 16 GB model and can cost up to $399 for the 128 GB version.
