I’ve had this question in several forms and I have answered it before, but I’ll do it one more time. A reader writes: “What if I don’t download the new Windows 10 while it’s a free upgrade? Will I have to pay for it later if I change my mind?”
The answer is “yes.” Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 from July 29, 2015 until July 29, 2016. If you don’t take advantage of that upgrade, you’ll pay around $100 for Windows 10.
Microsoft is anxious to get as many people as possible on the same operating system as quickly as possible. It’s easier to protect and to improve an operating system when most of your customers are using it.

Win 10 became available, but my laptop was in the shop at that time and I missed that window of opportunity. I was able to reserve and I am still waiting for that download OK. What if download does not happen until after July 29, 2016. Will I have to make unfair decision to buy the OS???
