How To Use Chrome As Your To Do List

Chrome’s New Tab page doesn’t exactly do anything. It’s just a blank page for you to enter a new URL. What if it could be something more? We all have to do lists. Why not turn that blank page into a useful to do list that appears anytime you open a new tab? All it takes is an extension to finally put that tab to good use.

Draft

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Draft is the easiest extension to use. It’s basically a word processor where you can type anything you want. This extension is perfect for a detailed to do list or putting together research. It even does calculations on the fly, so it’s kind of a built in calculator for Chrome.

You don’t need an account to use it. Just type whatever you want and the next time you open a new tab. If you sign in to Chrome, your Draft new tab list will be available on all your devices.

Where Draft is simplistic, Momentum is stunningly beautiful. It’s kind of like Bing mixed with a to do list. This extension provides a beautiful background image and inspirational quote to go with your list. Instead of a full list, Momentum asks you to enter in one major focus for the day. It then reminds you of it each time you open a new tab. It also has a smaller screen for all your other daily tasks.

You don’t need a separate account to use it, though you can sign in with your email to sync. To add additional tasks, click the small Todo link in the bottom right of the Momentum screen. It might take Momentum a few seconds to load the first time you use it.

Wunderlist

 

Wunderlist isn’t just for Chrome, but the extension takes your Wunderlist tasks and lets you view and edit them straight from the New Tab screen. This extension is best if you need to keep track of your tasks across multiple platforms, such as your phone, desktop, tablet, etc. You will need a Wunderlist account to use the extension. You’ll be able to create an account if you don’t have one or you can use your Facebook, Google or Live account.

If you’re starting with a new account, you’ll be taken through the new account setup process before using the extension.

Dayboard

 

Dayboard is simple, yet effective. It has two main modes – focus and my tasks. Focus mode only shows you a single task. Once you check it off, it shows you the next task on your list. In My Tasks, you’re shown all the tasks on your list at once. It’s also the smallest extension on this list. The only major downside is you can only add five tasks per list.

You don’t have to sign up for an account to use it, but you can create one for syncing if you want. One additional perk is you have a Bookmarks link in the bottom left so you have easy access to your bookmarks straight from the New Tab page. Another benefit is you can easily set up to do lists for multiple days by using the arrow buttons to change the date. If you like to keep track of your completion rate, the History section shows you your number of tasks and how many total have been completed since you started using the extension.

It’s important to note that all of these extensions are free. Even if you create an account, they’re all still free to use. Give each one a try to see which works best. No matter which one you like best, they’re all still better than seeing that bland New Tab page.
