Uninstalling Updates

Carole from Deerfield, Illinois is having problems with Microsoft downloading multiple copies of updates on her machine.  She writes “I had 3 Microsoft Updates (KB2760411, KB2760588, KB2760583) repeat themselves about 7 times on September 12! So, I have about an extra 18 of the same updates now sitting in my Updates History file! I finally turned off the ‘Automatic’ in the section for automatically installing updates. How do I get rid of all these unnecessary updates now showing up in my Updates History?”

Hi, Carole.  Thanks for the great question.

First off, I did a quick Google search for your problem and found this article:   https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/910339.  Hopefully that will help resolve your problem, because doing updates manually or constantly going in to remove duplicates can become very time-consuming for you.

Fortunately, removing these duplicate updates is fairly easy.  These instructions are for Windows 10, but should be similar in other versions.  Click on your START button, and then go to SETTINGS.

In the search box in the upper right hand corner, type UPDATES.  On the next screen, click on VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES.

The next screen will give you a list of your installed updates.  Find your update number and click on it.  Click UNINSTALL.

This will uninstall your duplicate updates.

I hope that this helps!
