When Will Final Windows 10 Be Here?

Warren has a Windows 10 question. He writes: “When will the final version of Windows 10 be available and will it be part of the free upgrade?”

Warren, Windows 10 was released to the public on July 29 of 2015. The version of Windows 10 that people are getting for the free upgrade is the “final” version of Windows 10, in that the OS is out of beta testing and ready for general use.  However, using the term “final” probably isn’t accurate.  No OS is usually every final. Service packs were released for XP and Windows 7 and Windows 8 saw the the update to Windows 8.1.

Microsoft is taking a new strategy with Windows 10, opting for smaller more frequent updates to fix any reported bugs and to add new features. The version of Windows 10 users of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 can upgrade to for free is no different than the version of Windows 10 that you can purchase for full price.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

  1. I keep reading on the net that Win 10 is a free upgrade to users of 7, 8 and 8.1. That is true, BUT, I have found, and I have done enough upgrades for people now, to know that Win 10 might not work so well on a Win 7 machine due to the fact that some Win 7 machines are only capable of 2 gigs of RAM maximum. Plus the video seems to need a little more “umph” with Win 10. I’ve done it many times now to find that sometimes the computer will run slower with Win 10 vs 7. I have to upgrade the computer if it can be…sometimes, but not always.

  2. Nice tip guys, but for computer techs, the layout of your newsletter really stinks. They are always too wide for the screen and mine is 20 inch screen. I have to scroll each line to get through it. Gets tiresome and I seldom finish one. Looks great here on your site, but not in my email. I would expect that the techs of World Start could do better. Yours is the worst news letter I get. Sorry, but it is true.

  3. I upgraded to win 10 on a computer running Win 7 home premium and I had nothing but trouble! I tried to change to classic view and none of the folders that were supposed to be in control panel were there. Also the audio did not work and it took an act of congress to get a Google icon on the desktop! I re-installed Win 7 as soon as I could. Win 10 is c—!
