Several of you have asked about upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows XP. Among them is Jane, who writes: “Do you know if you can download Windows 10 if you are still running XP?”
The answer is yes, but there’s a couple of catches. First, you won’t be eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 10. Only users of Windows 7, Windows 8 (after it’s upgraded for free to 8.1), and Windows 8.1 can upgrade for free. You could still purchase Windows 10 (for around $100) and do a clean install on your PC. That means that all your files and programs will be overwritten, so make sure everything is backed up.
Your PC would also need to meet the minimum tech requirements for Windows 10. Those include a 1 GHZ or faster processor, 1 GB or RAM for a 32-bit system or 2GB for a 64-bit system, a DirectX 9 or later graphics card with WDDM 1.0 driver and a display of 800 X 600. Also Windows 10 alone will take up to 20 GB of hard drive space.

Your reader could try what was successful for me and several friends. I had a Vista laptop. I bought a Win 7 dvd on Ebay for around $50. from a reliable seller. I installed the $50.00 Win 7 program, which I then upgraded to Win 10 for FREE!. NO problems, and it works like a charm for HALF what you suggested. A little bit more time involved, but well worth it to me and several friends of mine.

It would you could stick with XP. I’ve had XP 7,8,8.1 and 10. 10 is the best of the 8,8.1 bunch 7 was close to XP but XP was best of the bunch.
I upgraded to Windows 10 but lost the ability to play my DVDs so I went back to Windows 7. I would like to upgrade to 10 but I like my DVDs more.
