Fix CMD VBS – NOTEPAD Error

Anthony from Collingswood is having a frustrating time with a recurring error.  He writes “I need help in getting rid of a pop-up called Cmd VBS – Notepad. I am running Windows 7 Home Premuim 64 bit Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1).  Thank you.”

Hi, Anthony.  Thanks for the great question!

My research on this tells me that you’re not the only one having this problem.  It looks to be a piece of software that’s installed for Verizon Fios and home internet customers called Verizon In-Home Agent.

This actually seems like a pretty nifty service that will help you troubleshoot and repair problems with your service, as well as activate set-top boxes and cable cards, set up your remote, retrieve and change your W-Fi password, do account maintenance and manage your parental controls, among other things.

The problem is that the In-Home Agent can cause problems with certain Windows applications, as you’ve discovered.  Some people find the In-Home agent helpful.  If you use the In-Home Agent, then I would recommend finding a program to use for your notes than Notepad or contacting Verizon to see if they have a fix.  If you don’t use it, here are the instructions for removing it.  In versions of Windows previous to 10, go to your Control Panel, then ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, search for VZ Home Agent and uninstall.

For Windows 10, click your start menu and click SETTINGS.

2

Enter the word PROGRAM in the search box, and click on ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS.

3

Find and click on VZ In Home Agent, and click UNINSTALL.  Reboot your computer, and then try opening Notepad again and you should be good to go.

I hope that this helps!
