Comcast Buys Dreamworks
Comcast already owns NBC Universal, now the cable giant has laid out nearly $4 billion dollars to buy Steven Spielberg’s Dreamworks Animation studio. Dreamworks is the company behind Shrek, Antz, and other animated hits.
Comcast, the largest cable company in the U.S., has been heavily criticized for poor customer service by its cable subscribers. Comcast also owns NBC, Telemundo and the Universal Theme Parks.
The company had previously attempted to merge with Time Warner, but that deal did not go through.
Dyson Debuts $400 Blow Dryer
The company behind the vacuum that costs as much as a used car is at it again. This time, they’re offering a $399 blow dryer.
The company says it spent $71 million dollars to develop the super-quiet hair dryer. The dryer also constantly monitors the temperature of the air blowing on your hair to make sure it doesn’t get too hot and damage your hair. Attachments snap onto the device magnetically. (That actually sounds like a good idea. I cut myself trying to get the diffuser to attach to my $17 hair dryer last week.)
Dyson says this dryer works faster and leave you with shinier hair. But at the price, someone ought to come and do your hair for you.
Google Ends Chromebook Pixel sales.
Google seems to have pulled the plug on its $1000 Chromebook Pixel. A luxury Chromebook was an interesting experiment. The idea behind Chromebooks is that they are more like tablets in a laptop body; meant for working online as opposed to installing programs on the hard drive. And that meant that they cost a lot less than a typical laptop.
The Pixel went in the other direction with luxurious finishes and a magnificent screen resolution. It’s certainly not the end of the line for Chromebooks, HP has a new line of Chromebooks for sale and the devices have proved very popular with schools for student use.
