Protect Your Facebook Account

If you use Facebook, getting locked out of your account is a real pain. Fortunately, it’s not too difficult to retrieve your password. But, for those steps to work, you need to have an e-mail address and phone number  set up with Facebook for retrieving your password.

You also need to make sure that the phone number and e-mail address are current. Let’s look at how to set up your account so that retrieving a lost password doesn’t turn into a major hassle.

Start out by going to your Facebook homepage. Click the little  arrow in the upper-right-hand corner. Choose Settings from the drop-down menu.

First up, select General.

Under General Account Settings, check e-mail. Make sure it’s set to your current e-mail address.

To change the e-mail address, click edit. This is also how you can add an additional e-mail address. That’s not a bad idea. Because you could also get locked out of an e-mail account. Especially, if someone steals your ID.

Your current e-mail will be displayed. To add another e-mail or phone number, just click “Add another email or mobile number.”

You can then just type in the e-mail you wish to use.

You can change your primary contact e-mail by choosing the button next to the address. Removing an address is as easy as selecting Remove.

You can also add or update a mobile phone contact number by clicking Add another email or mobile number. Choose Add your phone number?

  1. Why do sites like this insist on a mobile number and not also offer a land line? Living in a dead zone, our cell number is about worthless, especially for these types of things.
