A reader is having an issue with Excel in Windows 10. “I had Office 2013 when I updated to Window 10 and now I get a message when trying to use Excel that Microsoft program is not working – I do not understand why. Is there a simple, free spreadsheet program that I can use in case I am not able to get the Microsoft suite back.”
Before looking for an alternative program, let’s try a fairly simple fix.
Type Change or remove a program in your search box and click on the result.
Highlight Microsoft Office 2013 from the programs listed.
Choose Change
A pop-up will ask if you’d like to repair. Try the Quick Repair first. If that doesn’t work, attempt an online repair.
If that doesn’t work, consider reinstalling the program. (assuming you still have the activation key handy.)
If you want to continue using Excel, you can use the free Excel App online at Outlook.com. Or you could Download LibreOffice, Open Office or WPS Office. All of these programs will open Excel spreadsheets.
