Bob from Houston, TX is having a problem keeping his default web browser.  He writes “I’m running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system with SP1. I can’t make IE 11 (Update version 11.0.2) my default browser. I click on Tools / Internet options / Programs and under the Default web browser section, I’m told “Internet Explorer is not currently the default web browser.  I click on the “Make default” button and then click “OK” but after exiting IE and coming back into it, IE is no longer the default. How do I make IE my default browser? What am I doing wrong?”

I’m not sure why this is happening to you, but I do have a suggestion that might help.

You can change the default browser in your Internet Options on your PC.  The first thing that you need to do is to open your CONTROL PANEL.  Do this by clicking on the START button on your desktop, then click on CONTROL PANEL.

Next, you want to open your network and internet options.

Now, your control panel may not look exactly like this, depending on which view you’ve chosen, but you should still be able to find the options fairly easily.

Next, choose the PROGRAMS tab from the top of the window.  Choose the button that says MAKE DEFAULT next to Internet Explorer.

Hopefully, this will fix your problem.

If it doesn’t, there’s another, more difficult option, and that is that you may have a virus.  You didn’t say what your browser keeps changing to, but one frequent feature of viruses is that they will “hijack” your browser.  I would recommend running your virus scan program and see if that fixes the problem.  If it doesn’t, you may want to take your computer to your friendly neighborhood computer geek to see if there’s something more complex going on with your system.

I hope that this helps!
