Apps have the potential to change the way we interact with movies forever. Take the groundbreaking virtual reality app for Deepwater Horizon. This app takes film commentary to the next level featuring three special sequences from the epic action disaster film. Deepwater Horizon chronicles the April 2010 oil rig disaster that created the worst oil spill in U.S. history. It stars Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson, Hudson’s father Kurt Russell also stars along with John Malkovich, Gina Rodriguez, Dylan O’ Brien, and Ethan Suplee.
This new (iOS and Android mobile) that puts viewers in the same room as director Peter Berg for exclusive commentary from editor Colby Parker Jr. Created by SubVRsive in partnership with Lionsgate, viewers will be surrounded by renderings and sketches of the various special effects used in the film, as Berg and Parker Jr. reference them.
The first scene is fully accessible when the app is downloaded and the additional scenes are unlocked using audio recognition while viewing Deepwater Horizon. The app can be used on an iPhone or Android smartphone with a compatible virtual reality viewing device such as Google Cardboard, which should be used while seated. Alternately, users without a mobile VR viewer can enjoy the experience in 360 video mode. All instructions included with the compatible VR viewing device should be followed before use and such use should not continue if any discomfort or health reactions are experienced.
