Narrator gets smarter with Creators Update

Some welcome news for the blind and visually impaired. In Microsoft’s upcoming big update to Windows 10, Narrator is getting smarter.

Narrator is the  screen reader built into Windows 10 that reads text aloud and describes events, like notifications and calendar appointments.

In the past, Narrator could only describe pictures if they were labeled with alternative text.

In the Windows 10 Creators Update, Narrator gets artificial intelligence. It will be able generate descriptions for images without alternative text as well as use optical character recognition to extract text from images that contain text.

I’m working on a guide about the Creators Update and all the changes that come with it right now.

  1. Nice!
Very nice indeed. Now the other, the commercial screen readers will have to come up with something similar to keep up with Microsoft.
