I told you last week about Amazon’s redesigned Echo speakers at a lower price. There’s also a slightly more expensive version of the echo called the Echo Plus. It costs $149, but comes with a built-in smart home hub.
Like other models of Echo, this voice-activated speaker uses Amazon’s digital assistant, Alexa. The Echo Plus will play music on demand, do web searches, set appointments, and even order select products from Amazon. The device will connect with all other Echo devices in your home.
While all Echo devices will let you set them up with smart home apps for easy voice control, the built-in hub on this model makes it as easy as saying, “Alexa, discover my devices.” Alexa will work a long list of smart home devices like Phillps Hue, GE, and Kwikset. This includes outlets, locks, thermostats, security cameras, and home entertainment systems.
You’ll also be able to make hands-free calls and texts and even have Alexa send for an Uber if you need a ride.
The Echo plus can be pre-ordered now for $149.99 and will be available on October 31.
