Mac: remove an app from the Dock

The Dock on your Mac computer is a handy place to keep shortcuts that enable you to instantly find and launch applications.

But it can start to get a little crowded. Here’s how you can remove shortcuts that you don’t use very often.

To remove the shortcut (called an alias on a Mac), click on it and drag it to the desktop until you see Remove appear next to the icon. Release the mouse button and the app should disappear from the Dock. This will not uninstall a program. You can still find it under Applications.
