A reader wants to know the best microphone to use with a Windows PC.
“What kind(s) of microphone do I purchase to use sound and voice on my win10 PC, I am 83 and still trying to learn a lot about PCs.”
If you have a laptop, it likely has a microphone built in. For a desktop, there are two ways to go. A mic that plugs into the 3.5 mm jack or a USB powered model. Let’s start with the 3.5 mm jack mics. Often those come as part of a headset for convenience, like this model. You can find them for less than $10 in many cases.

The model below is only $5 and plugs right into a jack. Find it at this link on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2rX86Ol

You might also consider this USB mic that plugs into a USB port. Also under $5 https://amzn.to/2BKi1v3

I’ve found that even cheap mics work okay with Windows 10. If you’d like a slightly nicer model, consider a stand mic that plugs into a USB port. They do offer better sound clarity and if you’re planning on doing a lot of dictation, probably a better user experience. Here’s one similar to what I use with my desktop. Prices range between $10 for the cheapest model to over a hundred for something good enough quality to record narration on.
