Enable spell check for Google Chrome

Did you know that Google Chrome browser has a great built-in spell check feature? This came up the other day when a reader was lamenting the lack of spell check in Yahoo Mail.  Here’s how to turn it on.

Open Chrome, click the three-dot menu icon and choose Settings from the drop-down menu.

In the pane on the left, click on the arrow next to Advanced.

Click on Privacy and security.

In the right panel, scroll down to Languages and make sure Spellcheck is turned on.

Here I’ll start typing a message in Yahoo Mail.  Notice that spelling mistakes are underlined in red.

You can also choose to run a more advanced spell check. Your text will be sent to Google, though, for evaluation. If you have privacy concerns, you may wish to skip that.

Click on Customize spell check, and you’ll be able to add words to your dictionary that Chrome might not recognize.
