A reader is having an issue with a blinking cursor:
“Having a problem that I haven’t been able to fix as yet. I am leaning towards Microsoft’s Edge as causing the problem but can’t find a resolution from their settings. It seems to happen after I’ve used their app. PROBLEM: The cursor on my screen blinks on and off after I’ve used the MS Edge app. It starts sometime during the use. My only fix right now is to Shut Down the computer and wait a while before rebooting. That seems to put my cursor back online. It’s very annoying to have it on and off every 1 or 2 seconds. Any assistance or help would be appreciated.”
My number one suspect in this scenario would be hardware acceleration. Hardware acceleration moves rendering of texts and graphics from the CPU to the Graphics Processing Unit. If your PC’s graphics capabilities are limited, this could cause an issue with the appearance of your cursor.
Let’s check it out and see if that’s what’s causing the issue.
Click the three-dot menu icon at the upper-right of Edge and choose Settings from the drop-down menu.
Under Settings, choose System.
Slide the switch next to Use hardware acceleration to the off position.
