Google Hit With Outage

Gmail, YouTube and other Google services were hit with a massive outage early today. The outage started just before 7 am.

Gmail users were hit with errors when accessing their messages.

Kids couldn’t log onto Google Classroom, a big problem with millions of kids taking virtual lessons from home due to COVID-19.

Businesses using Google’s Workspace Office Suite were out of luck. At one point every product from their word processor to spread sheet to presentation software was down.

It also affected the Google ad network that places advertising on websites all over the world.

Google Photos and YouTube were also hit.

The company originally said the outage was due to user problems and suggested people check their security settings. When it became clear the issue was widespread and linked to their product they issued a statement. “We’re investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior.”

They issued the same statement for each of their product. The outage lasted approximately an hour. Most services were back online by 8 am.
