Firefox Video Won’t Play

A reader can’t get video to play in Firefox:

“Recently, when I try to watch a video on Mozilla Firefox the videos will play for a while then just stop. Sometimes the progress line keeps going but I can’t hear nor see the video. If I copy the address and paste into Edge the videos play fine and they play on my android phone. . It has all started after I downloaded Rumble due to all of the censorship on my social media accounts. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. I’m using Windows 10 and my Firefox is up to date 85.0. I’ve disabled my 2 ad blockers and it didn’t make any difference. I haven’t changed any Firefox settings.”

The first thing I always suggest when a browser goes wonky is clearing the cache.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Del. This box will pop up. Tick the box next to Cache and anything else you want to clear. You can select the time range from a drop-down box. I’d suggest going back to when the video problem started and then clicking on OK.

If that doesn’t help, it could be a hardware acceleration issue. Click the three-line menu icon and choose Options from the drop-down menu.

Scroll down to Performance and untick the box next to Use recommended performance settings.

More settings will display. Uncheck the box next to Use hardware acceleration.

Let me know if this helps.
