The Fairy Castle of Colleen Moore

I first learned about Colleen Moore’s enchanting fairy castle in a library book back when I was a kid. I’ve always been a fan of miniatures and this incredible creation captured my attention immediately and has managed to hold it for four decades.

When you arrive at the site you’ll be on the Overview. As you scroll down the page, you’ll be able to see the dollhouse from multiple angles and learn snippets of information about it.

After you’ve checked that out, I suggest that you head over to the Exhibit section where you can explore the dollhouse room by room. The attention to detail is incredible! The Great Hall, Chapel, and Library are some of my favorite rooms.

The next section to visit is The Story where you’ll learn all about silent movie star Colleen Moore, the Fairy Castle, and how it ended up at the  Museum of Science and Industry Chicago.

Do not miss out on the Video section. You can watch conservators reassemble the dollhouse in under three minutes. It is a fascinating watch! I loved the detail that the flatware and glasses were so small that they wore masks to prevent inhaling them!

There are also details on how you can visit the castle in person once the museum reopens.
