The Healthy Knitter

I love the premise a combination of healthy living advice and inspiration with my favorite hobby – knitting.

And it’s not annoying healthy living advice either! Instead, it’s inspiration to get up and move. We spend so much time sitting in our culture: work requires sitting, winter makes it annoying to go outdoors, so we end up sitting inside. Even my favorite hobbies tend to encourage sitting (video games, knitting, embroidery and cross stitch). Thankfully the six flights of stairs to my office keep me active on the days I’m on campus.

Navigation is easy since the site is a blog. Just scroll down the page and read the entries. At the top of the page you can find an Background section where you’ll find the About Me, Background, and Science categories. Under Science, the author, a nutritionist, explains the science behind the suggestions for a healthier life.

I love the author’s non-judge-y attitude, and I feel like she doesn’t hit you over the head with repeated Stop Sitting! admonishments, but instead creates an environment that is beautiful and inspiring. When I see her photos, I want to get up and go on a ramble of my own.  The site even offers knitting patterns inspired by nature for sale.
