If you want the added security of backing up to the cloud, I’ve got a great service that also happens to be free (as long as you stick with the basic 5 GB plan).
Not only is iDrive free, it will also back up any device whether it’s a PC, Mac, smartphone, or tablet! You can backup multiple devices to the same account. You can also back up data from mapped drives.
In addition to that 5 GB of free cloud storage, you can even get a free once-a-year backup to a temporary physical drive supplied by iDrive. You ship it to them, and if your system goes down, they can send it back to you within a week or so.
You can sync your files in real time to make sure you don’t lose anything important. As you can see from the screenshot for the PC version, it’s a fairly simple interface.
Files are transferred and stored with 256-bit AES encryption using a user-defined key that is not stored anywhere on the servers.
They also make it easy to backup data you store online like your Instagram and Facebook accounts. You can even backup your OneDrive folders for additional security. You can even share those file backups with anyone you like. The software will even help you perform local backups to your own drive.
Plus, the site features handy tutorial videos to walk you through the process. They are super-simple and easy to understand. Watching these videos should answer most of your questions about how iDrive works. You can click here to check them out.
The basic 5 GB plan is absolutely free. After that personal plans start at $80 yearly for 5 TB for personal use and $100 yearly for a 250 GB business account. You can add additional storage for additional fees.
Even if you already have cloud backup, I always like the option of adding another just for safety’s sake.
