As many of you know, in addition to writing tech tips, I’m also a mystery writer. I’m currently collaborating with another writer on a project and I was trying to describe a character to her. I wasn’t sure I was conveying what I meant, so I went looking for a program that would allow me to create a model of what I was talking about. I did have a couple of specifications. I wanted easy. I wanted free. I’m not hard to please at all, am I?
I found the coolest program! It’s called Make Human. It’s pretty simple to use and super-simple to use. It would be fun for kids and adults alike, though I would caution you that you are making anatomically correct nekked people before you dress them. There’s nothing pornographic going on, but they do have the requisite parts. Let’s get started by downloading and installing the program.
Click here to go to the downloads page.
It’s available for Windows, OSX, and Ubuntu. Just click on your OS to download. This is also where you kind find extras plug-ins and add-ons.
Choose to save the ZIP file.
Find the file in your downloads and right-click to unzip.
Choose the destination.
Click to open the Make Human file.
Find the executable program file. It’s the one with the icon.
Right-click to create a shortcut that you can drag to the desktop.
Now we’re ready to open the program and actually have some fun creating our own humans. We’ll start the fun tomorrow in part 2 of this article.
