This site absolutely makes me laugh aloud. It’s based around a book written by James Lileks and it makes fairly gentle fun of design trends from the 1970s using images from old home magazines and decorating manuals.
Having grown up in the 1970s, I can agree, as far as home decor went, that decade deserves all the grief you’d care to give it. From giant daisy plaid wallpaper to leopard print furniture, I found myself laughing louder and louder as I explored this site.
It’s a pretty simple site, click the Next button at the bottom of the page to see more images or choose from the fun list of sub-sites that are guaranteed to make you laugh.
I’m particularly fond of 1971: a Sample. The bright yellow wall with keys was considered the height of style back in the day. The images are accompanied by funny commentary from James Lileks.
