Chromebook Plus – Is it the best Chromebook yet?

Chromebooks have been around for a decade, and while they are used by schools, they haven’t dominated the home market the way Android has the smartphone market. But Google thinks the new Chromebook Plus could change all that.

These new models feature Artificial Intelligence capabilities and are faster than previous models. Let’s check out Google’s guaranteed specs for the Plus:

  • PU: Intel Core i3 12th Gen or above, or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or above
  • RAM: 8GB+
  • Storage: 128GB+
  • Webcamera: 1080p+ with Temporal Noise Reduction
  • Display: Full HD IPS or better display

They’ve also added some upgrades to the Photos App. According to Google, “We’re bringing Magic Eraser’s AI-powered editing in the built-in Google Photos app on Chromebook Plus, so you can easily remove unwanted distractions from your pictures, as well as intelligently making suggestions in the scene. The app also includes additional enhanced editing features, like an HDR effect that enhances brightness and contrast, and the ability to add portrait blur to your existing photos.”

They also tout a new File Sync feature which allows you to access your Google Drive files even if you aren’t connected to the Internet. Windows has offered a similar feature for OneDrive for years.

Google says it will be adding more AI assisted features in the coming months including an AI assistant to polish your Facebook posts and online reviews and AI capable of generating images from text prompts that will allow you to do things like customize your desktop.

The company says these new models offer 10 hours of battery life Several manufacturers will offer models and prices start at $399.
