Use Instagram with a browser

The popular Instagram social media platform is designed specifically for use with a smartphone. But you don’t need one to use it. You can sign up for Instagram and look at the images other people post using a browser. However, you won’t be able to post photos without having the app installed on a smartphone.

Sign up is simple. Just go to www.instagram.com and either log in with Facebook or sign up with your email address.

Let’s take a look at the browser layout for Instagram. Remember, you won’t be able to post photos, but you can look at those posted by others. Here’s what it looks like.

The feed will take up the majority of the page. You’ll be able to see one post at a time. Scroll down to view more.

At the bottom of each image, you’ll see several icons. Click on the heart icon to like an image or the speech bubble to leave a comment. Click on the arrow icon to share via Instagram Messenger which is integrated with Facebook.

To thetop of the page, you’ll see options to view Instagram stories and suggestions of who to follow. Click on a user to view their story. Click on Follow to follow one of the suggestions.

At the left, you’ll find a search icon.  Use it to search for users or subjects on Instagram.

Click on the result to view the user’s posts. If you’d like to follow them, click the Follow button.

At the left, you’ll see multiple icons. Click the one that looks like a compass and you’ll see suggestions of people to follow on Instagram.

Click on images to view their feed. Click Follow if you want to see their images in your feed.

Click the heart icon to see notifications. You’ll see who has liked or commented on your posts. The icon that looks like a little house will take you to your account. Click on Reels to view videos.

As I said earlier, you can’t post photographs from a browser or use Instagram private messaging, but you can follow along and view the posts of others.
