What Browser Blocks PopUps Best?

question mark on chalk board

A reader is tired of pop-ups:

“Is there a browser that either prohibits popups (ads, sport, politics, etc.), or at least has a popup-stopper that really works? Firefox used to be pretty good about popups, but lately there are many popups that linger for 30 seconds or more, obscuring content in the bargain! Edge is the worst! Such a browser does not have to be free.  I will gladly pay a reasonable fee for freedom from those accursed intruders!”

My first thought is that the issue could be that you’ve accidentally enabled notifications from websites. Nearly every site you visit these days asks to send you notifications and they sometimes word it in ways that cause you to accidentally accept notifications.

All major browsers include pop-up blockers. Here’s how to turn them on in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge.

Open Chrome and type this in the address bar: chrome://settings/content/popups

When the Pop-ups and redirects window opens, tick the box next to Don’t allow pop-ups and redirects.

For Edge, open the browser and type this in the address bar: edge://settings/content/popups

Under Pop-ups and redirects, make sure to switch Blocked on.

For Firefox, open the browser and type this into the address bar:

about:preferences#privacy

When the privacy windows opens, make sure you’ve ticked the box next to Block pop-up windows.

One browser you might want to try is Brave, which blocks all pop-ups by default. Click here to learn more.
