Nordly's Northern Lights

Nordly’s Northern Lights

“Of all naturally occurring heavenly phenomena, few come close to a night with a magnificent northern lights display. Flickering curtains of dancing light against the dark skies, northern lights is certainly one of the most spectacular of nature’s phenomena.”

For all of you who’ve been reading my articles for a while, you know I love the Northern Lights. I can’t begin to tell you how delighted I am to have found this site. You’ll find the navigation at the top corner. The sections are:

What Are Northern Lights? Here you will learn why they exist to where they appear, which colors appear, the frequency of appearance, and even how to observe them. You’ll even find a video that you can watch on the main page in this section!

Aurora in Science has the history of the northern lights in science from the first text mentioning them, to early research, to the very first scientists who pioneered in the study of the auroras. This section is full of interesting historical tidbits; it was fascinating to read about the people who were first inspired to figure out how the northern lights work.

Real-time Measurements tells how the lights were first measured with photographs and as time went on and science progressed with satellites.

Auroral Mythology talks about how the northern lights, like most natural phenomena, have a myth about them. Here you can learn the myths that were the Vikings, Native Americans, and etc. way of explaining the Auroras.

Aurora in Arts show some very neat artistic impressions of the northern lights from one artists rendering, to a poem, to the festival of lights, and so on. This is a short but sweet section that leaves quite an impact on how artists view the lights.

Land of the Aurora tells where you can travel to see the Aurora. This even includes sites that you can check out if you want to travel there. A great travel section!

Photo Contest has the Photo of the Month, the Photo of the Year, and how to submit your photos to be entered into the monthly contest. If you click the link This Month’s Contest you can check out the gallery of all the entries they received for this month!

The User’s Corner has a great Question and Answers area, other Internet Resources, as well as free downloads, the site’s guestbook where you can leave your thoughts on the site.

This is an excellent site on the Northern Lights that offers not only images of the phenomenon but also information and some of the science behind their occurrence.
