XP Stays Strong As Window 8 Share Inches Up

The percentage of PCs using the  Windows 8 operating system ticked up slightly to 5.4% of the market in July, according to numbers released by NetMarketShare.  Windows 7 is still ruling the roost with nearly 45% of PCs running that system, but Windows XP is not far behind at nearly 38%.  XP is staying pretty strong, considering that Microsoft is discontinuing support for that system in April of 2014. The much-maligned Vista has 4% of the market followed by Mac OS 10 at 3%.

Microsoft Forced To Rename SkyDrive

After losing a trademark infringement suit to UK Based Sky Broadcasting, Mcrosoft will be forced to rename SkyDrive. That’s a pretty big blow to the tech giant, since they have emphasized SkyDrive as a major feature of Windows 8 and Office 365.

Microsoft will be allowed an unspecified “reasonable amount of time” to rebrand their star product.

In a statement, Microsoft said, “We’re glad to have resolution of this naming dispute, and will continue to deliver the great service our hundreds of millions of customers expect, providing the best way to always have your files with you,”
