Can I Keep Outlook Express When I Upgrade To Windows 7?

Steve from Trinidad writes:

If I change to Windows 7, would I still be able to use an email client to download my messages using pop3 access? Specifically, would I still be able to use my favourite Outlook Express? Thanks for taking the time to answer and keep up the good work. I enjoy this newsletter very much.

You cannot download or run Outlook Express on Windows 7. You can use another e-mail client or Windows Mail which is similar to Outlook Express. You can set up a POP 3 in Windows 7 with Windows Mail.

Steve, don’t just think about upgrading from Windows XP. Time is running out. Microsoft will end support for XP in April of 2014. That means no new security updates and open season on XP users for hackers with malicious intent.

  1. Very poor, it did not answer the question by suggesting or giving a list of other email client programs. This would have been a good time to go into the pros and cons (features)of each program.

  2. There is nothing whatsoever even similar to Outlook Express. Windows Mail does not look like, behave like, is nothing like OE in anyway. I currently switched form XP to WIN7 and, although WIN7 has many good features, I miss XP like the dickens and, worse, I am deeply affected by the loss of Outlook Express. Sure, it had periodic problems, but overall, it was magic!
