Check out this awesome collection of vintage movie posters, ranging from the start of the motion picture industry right up to the World War II era, from the Frances Howard Goldwyn Hollywood Regional Branch Library.
When you arrive at the site, you’ll already be right in the heart of the collection of twenty-nine different movie posters. There are a couple of different ways to browse them. You can either just check out the thumbnails and click on the ones that seem interesting, or you can use the search field at the top of the page to use a keyword to search the collection.
I chose to browse via thumbnail, although I did modify it to show all 29 posters at once by typing Hollywood Collection and changing the drop down box from 20 items to 30 items and then clicking the blue Find It button. This will allow you to see all the posters on one page.
When you click on the poster you want to browse, you’ll be whisked away to its page where you’ll find: the poster (a little larger than thumbnail, to see it enlarged click the image again and it will open in a new window at full size), its dimensions, its collection id, and caption (if there is one for the poster).
Some of the movie posters featured are The Mummy, The Covered Wagon, Cabaret, and Doctor X to just name a few.
This is a very cool collection of vintage movie posters that you should go see for yourself!
