Microsoft has announced a release date for the Windows 10 upgrade. The new operating system will be available for download on July 29.
Users of Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will be able to upgrade for free starting July 29. Users will have one year from that date to take advantage of the free upgrade. Microsoft is encouraging users to make reservations for the upgrade.
Sometime soon, an icon should appear at the lower right corner of your computer.
Click on it for information on how to make your reservation.

I reserved my update yesterday. I have my concerns, but at least I’ve allowed myself the option. I had XP for about 10 years and was hesitant to switch to Win7, but find I enjoy it. I’m hoping Win10 won’t be too different. I’m 67 and not too tech savvy. Thanks “John” for the info on whether programs and devices will work with it. I need to check that out before downloading!
I’m looking forward to it surely has to be another improvement, I have’t really found anything wrong with 8.1, which is certainly better than the XP I was using, once I got used to to it. No doubt 10 will also have to be got used to. AND IT’S FREE. Hooray!!

I have windows 8.1 and having trouble with my email, I use windows live mail, I do not get the column of Home page, and it’s hard to close it out, I sure need help badly.

Connie, we have many articles on Windows 8.1 on our site as well as our Guide to Windows 8.1 for sale. Windows Live Mail works exactly the same in Widows 8.1 as it does in Windows 7. I’m not sure what you mean by column of Home Page for Live Mail. I’d suggest writing a more detailed question to editor@worldstart.com

I have reserved it but not sure yet if I will install. It does not say which version of Windows 10 you will get. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and want the comparable version in Windows 10 if I install it. It does not say if you will receive a “matching” version. Any ideas on that??

I asked about it from friends on Facebook. They are saying not to trust a pop up like that such as update Flash. Is this REALLY safe to download? I took the icon off the bottom of my screen

it will probably be forced on us like windows 7(no more support for XP). I like windows7now. If it as easy ok. but I do not want to be stuck with a windows8 clone.
It took me a long time to go to Windows 7 from XP. I signed up to get the upgrade but if there are problems with the software or hardware I use, I will have to go back, until I can afford faster hardware.
I just got my upgrade today and I reserved my copy of windows 10. I can’t wait to upgrade from windows 7.
We will be downloading Windows 10 on both of our computers. We “reserved” our download yesterday and figure if we don’t like it, we can always go back to Windows 8.1.

I have three computers with windows 7 and two with windows 8.1. I will upgrade all five to windows 10.
How will or where do I put in for my windows 10 update, as I said before, I do not like my windows 8.1, always having trouble with it, especially with my email. I have windows live mail now and would like to get outlook email, can you please let me know how I can go about doing that and do I have to change me email address.

I haven’t decided yet about upgrade to Win10. I have been using Win7 Home Premium 64bit for a few years now. I have a lot of Flight Sims installed, Train Sims, NASCAR race Sims,etc. All works great. Now, “If it works don’t fix it” applies here for me. There were a lot of “issues” getting all the above to work in Win7. After a lot of hit and miss and experimenting, etc., all is good. I don’t want to go through all that again with Win10. So I will wait and decide in a few years or so. Plus don’t forget about all the flaws and short cuts leading to problems from all the past OS’s from Microsoft. My decision for now to go to Win10 is:NOT.
Loved XP, switch to 8.1 sill leaning how to work with it. Going to upgrade to 10. Have nothing to lose, just have to learn it all over again.
Will wait until service pack 1 before I risk it. We have Vista, Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1 and would be nice if all were the same. Our Vista laptop will be replaced in the fall 2015 so new one will probably come with Win 10 installed. Not sure if I would upgrade the Win 7 machine as it works very well and is our home network server. Win 8 and 8.1 machines will definitely be upgraded after a few months of debugging by the public.
Don’t expect to large upgrades like a service pack in this version of Windows. Microsoft’s plan is to make gradual monthly changes and continually update and de-bug the operating system as it goes.
I will likely upgrade, however I’m not certain how to evaluate the changes that will take place along with the upgrade. Would WS be able to provide explanations for some of the proposed changes – especially those that involve drivers?

I commented once before but never got an answer. If I upgrade to 10, how will that affect the compatibility of my programs I now have running on Windows 7?
Rich, there is a built-in compatibility checker that will check all of the programs on your current computer. We’ll have a full article on it in Wednesday’s newsletter.

Every 3 or 4 months I refresh my computer and before I am able to get 8.1 working again I have down load all the updates for win8, will I have do the same thing if I switch over to win10.
Can YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN THE BENEFITS OF UPGRADING TO WINDOWS 10? Will there be any glitches?

I will definitely upgrade my Windows 7 & also Windows 8.1 to Widnows 10 when available. Some articles I have read advise waiting several weeks to upgrade in order to avoid any early glitches?
