Want to hear a scary statistic? Nearly 30% of folks accessing the Internet from a desktop or laptop are using a version of Internet Explorer with no security support.

Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer 8 with the death of XP back in April of 2014 and just last week ended support for Internet Explorer 9 and 10 on any PC that will support Internet Explorer 11. It’s not like they did it without any notice, they announced the end of support for all but the very latest version of Internet Explorer quite a while back, and I’ve mentioned it to you several times. Vista users will still have support for IE 9 until support for Vista ends in 2017.

As of now, Only Internet Explorer 11 has security support. Now, you might say that you have Norton or Avast or Kaspersky or some other kind of third-party security, so you’re good to go. Not the case. Third-party security companies rely on information from Microsoft in order to permanently patch these problems.

Unfortunately, according to stats from NetMarketShare nearly 30% of those accessing the Internet are doing it on an unsupported browser.
While 25.7% are using the supported Internet Explorer 11, nearly 9% are using Internet Explorer 8, a browser that hasn’t had support for nearly TWO years. Almost 7% are using Internet Explorer 9, while 4% are using Internet Explorer 10. Despite the popularity of Windows 10, only 2% are using Edge to go online.

In non-Microsoft browser news, Chrome is found on 21% of computers going online, while Firefox is seen on around 9% and Safari on 3%.
Here’s the deal, if you can upgrade to Internet Explorer 11, do it now. The upgrade is free.
You also have the option of using the latest versions of Chrome and FireFox, both also free. If you’re using Windows Vista and want to continue with IE9, you’ll be fine for another year until Vista Support ends.
If you’re still using Windows XP, please stop going online with it.

Thank you for this info. Personally I hate using IE (any version), but some things just won’t run on anything else, so I need to keep it on my computer.
I found I don’t like Chrome any better (used it on my sister’s computer). I’ve never used Safari, and no nothing about it.
My favorite browser is Firefox, tho sometimes when they do updates, they tend to try to disable things that many of us use, and get us really irritated!
