I had this question from a reader. “I’ve heard Internet Explorer browser is being discontinued. What’s another good browser I should use?”
Internet Explorer isn’t going away anytime soon. It’s included as part of Windows 10 and will probably be around for many more years. So there’s no immediate hurry to change browsers.
But if you’re looking to switch, you have several options. If you have Windows 10, you can always try out Microsoft Edge. It’s more streamlined that Explorer, but might take some getting used to.
It has cool features like Reading mode that strips away excess graphics.
The most popular browser besides Internet Explorer is Google Chrome. You can download it for free here.
Chrome allows you add on extensions from the Chrome web store that perform a variety of functions form making t0-do lists to drawing on your screen to making it easier for the colorblind to see. Users tend to love all the customization options in Chrome.
Another popular choice is Mozilla Firefox. It is also available for free. Click here to check it out.
Firefox is an open-sourced browser that is widely respected to the attention the developers pay to privacy and for its security.
These are all good browsers and I have all of them on my PC. Check them all out and see which one works best for you. I switch between browsers myself, because I find some browsers work better for some tasks but not others. The only way to discover which browser works best for you is to try them all out.

I like Firefox and Edge is growing on me… like the nice features
I’ve been getting your freebie version of your newsletter for years and I really appreciate it. As for what browser I favor. I use Firefox exclusively I find it suits my needs very well. I still have Chrome on my machine but rarely use it. Deleted IE a long time ago, I hated it. NOT looking forward to W10 at all, I’m gonna stick with W7 as long as I can. Thanks and I hope this helps…
Michael: No reason you can’t use Firefox in Windows 10.
I use Chrome and especially like the “Great Suspender” option, which allows for many tabs to be readily available without taking up a lot of memory.
Cynthia, I think it was a little misleading about IE. It is still around, but it won’t work on Win 10. If you have it and upgrade to win 10 it will be gone when the upgrade is complete. If you try to download it it will tell you it is not compatible with Win 10, but is for other Win OSes.
When Best Buy walked me through Windows 10 after Microsoft installed it on my computer, I saw Edge was there and since I did not even want to look at Edge, they told me to type “internet explorer” in my search box to get it back.
