A Way with Words

Welcome to A Way with Words! This lively public radio show examines language through the lens of history, culture, and family. The show is hosted by Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett who talk with people from all around the world about  slang, grammar, old sayings, word origins, regional dialects, family expressions, and speaking and writing well.

When you arrive at the site you’ll find a navigation strip along the top of the page, a scrolling featured content box, recent segments, and the opportunity to join the discussion on the main page. Beneath the navigation strip, you’ll also find the options: Listen, Contact, Newsletter, and Donate.

I started browsing the site from the front page by clicking on links under the Recent Segments icon to get a feel for the program. Each segment I clicked into had a brief description of the content followed by an embedded SoundCloud mp3 of the episode. Some of the segments had a breakdown of the episode by topic covered. For example, check out Sweet Dreams.

By clicking Listen at the top of the page on the navigation strip, you’ll uncover a drop-down menu that offers you different platforms you can listen to the show on. I selected the first option, All Episodes, to check out the show, but I made note that the program was available via radio, iTunes, various apps for different platforms, and SoundCloud.

This is a really fun radio program about language! I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as this word nerd did!
