Hide Facebook Political Posts – A Step-By-Step Guide

With the election season in full swing, Facebook is turning into a hotbed of angry political debate (more so than usual.)

So, I thought I’d  show you step-by-step how to avoid the barrage of political posts that are only going to get worse.  The first two posts that showed up in my feed this morning were political.

So, what are your options when people continually post political stuff that you don’t want to see? You could unfriend the person. If the person is a friend, family member, coworker, former classmate, or someone you share an interest with, that’s really the last resort.  If it’s someone you don’t know at all in real life – go ahead and unfriend him or her. Why are you friends with them anyway? To unfriend, just go to their profile and click that drop-down button next to Friends. Choose Unfriend.

Is this person a close friend, family member or coworker?  Consider simply unfollowing posts from this person. You can easily reverse the decision after the election. Just click the arrow to the right of the post and choose Unfollow from the drop-down menu.

Or if their annoying posts seem to come from one or two sites, consider just blocking posts from that site. That not only covers posts from that person but also posts shared from the offending site by other people.  Just click Hide all. You can also choose See fewer posts like this. This will help teach Facebook that you aren’t that into politics.

But there’s still a little more you can do. Tomorrow, we’ll look at how you can block certain words and phrases from turning up in your feed.
