If you use this anti-virus, updates could crash your PC

Microsoft has put a stop to updates for users of one anti-virus software. There have been reports of the latest security updates crashing the computers of folks using Sophos anti-virus on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

In fact, Sophos warned users who had installed the updates not to turn their computers off without first removing the updates.

Microsoft has blocked computers using Sophos from installing the updates until a solution is worked out. If you’ve already applied the update and your PC is having issues booting, here’s what to do:

Boot your PC in safe mode and disable your Sophos security software. Then reboot in regular mode. You can then remove the last Windows security update and turn Sophos back or. Or you could leave the update intact and turn on Windows Defender or another third-party security app.

Remember, this only affects those using Sophos security software on a Windows 7 or 8.1 PC. If you’re using any other security software or using Windows 10, there’s nothing to worry about.
