A reader has a question about Windows Vista:
“I have a computer running Vista that I no longer have online, but I still have to log in before I can access my morning games. How do I get rid of the sign-on step?”
I’m glad that you mentioned that you’re using your PC offline. Since Windows Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft, it’s not safe to use online. That includes surfing the Internet and sending and receiving email messages.
But your PC is still fine for playing games and other activities that don’t require the Internet. I would only suggest getting rid of the sign-in screen if you are the only one who uses this PC and it’s located in a private location. And guess what? This also works for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. I’m using screenshots from Vista, but it should work on any Windows OS.
Here’s how to get rid of that sign-in screen. Start by clicking the Start button.
Type Run in the Search box and hit Enter.
When the Run window opens, type netplWiz.exe and then hit OK.
When the User account control window opens, click Continue.
Untick the box next to Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer. Then click OK.
Type your username and password and then OK.
In windows 10 the user account control page never opens. What now?
