3D Embroidery Cloud Landscapes

Here’s a neat site devoted to an unusual form of embroidery. The 3D needlework of Russian artist Vera Shimunia finds beauty where some people would choose to only see gloom — in cloudy and overcast skies.


Shimunia’s delicate stitches create puffy 3-D crowds that bring her skyscapes to life. Her work highlights the natural beauty of everything from dark thunder boomers to puffy cumulus clouds to the beauty of wispy skies at sunset, all rendered with needle and thread inside a simple embroidery hoop.
