A reader wants to know if it’s time to update Windows 10.
“If I don’t have version 2004 is it necessary to update?”
Your PC will tell you if it’s time to update and most likely do it automatically. Depending on the make and model of your computer, it may not be ready to update. Even though version 2004 is referred to as the May Update, my PC wasn’t ready to update until July. When I went I went to Windows Update under settings, I saw this notification that the update was on its way but my device wasn’t ready yet.

Later, the manufacturer let me know when the necessary BIOS update was ready. After doing that, my computer was ready to update to the next version of Windows.
It could take a little while longer to get the update. If it doesn’t show up on its own, you can go here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Click on Update now to get started.

Cynthia, I just spent 2 1/2 hrs doing the update, I thought for the 2004. But the version I now have is version 1909 for windows 10 home. Do I still need to do the update to 2004? Trish
Your PC will let you know when it is ready for 2004.
