A reader wants to know how to tell a genuine Android update from a phishing scam.
“When a pop-up appears on my smartphone saying that there’s an Android update, how can I tell whether the update is authentic?”
The quickest way is to go Settings and see if there’s an update pending. I’ll show you how to do it on my phone. Your phone could look slightly different as all Android phones are bit different.
Start by going to Settings.
Scroll down to System Updates and tap to open.
Tap on Check for system updates.
If there’s an update, you’ll see notification one is ready.
Or the notice that your system is up-to-date.
