Window Butterfly Garden

This delightful site details how nature photographer Rizwan Mithawala turned the window box of his eighth-story Mumbai apartment into a butterfly garden.

Rizwan was hungering for a bit of nature during the COVID-19 lockdown. With no space for planters, he hung water jugs from the iron safety bars covering his 16-ft window.

He purchased a succulent called kalachoe. The plant is home to the red Pierrot butterfly. The water jugs and plants combined cost less than $5 but they created a beautiful world just outside his window.

With plenty of time on his hands, Rizwan was able to capture the lifecycle of the butterflies from egg to caterpillar to pupa to beautiful butterfly.
