Can’t access Echo online

I’ve told you about my Amazon Echo speaker. A reader also recently got one, but she’s having trouble setting it up.

“I received an Echo as a gift and have not yet been able to get it to work. First problem is I do not have a cell phone or smartphone. I did find instructions online for getting it set up using Windows and a computer, but, altho I got to the “Welcome to Alexa” page, I can’t seem to go any further, and I’m at a loss as to what to do now! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I would like to know if I can borrow and use someone else’s smartphone to set it up?”

The easiest way to use your Echo is with a smartphone, but you can set it up via a browser using the Alexa web app. I’m wondering if your problem might not be related to the browser you’re using. I had issues with other browers, but when I switched to Chrome, I was able to sign into my Amazon account with no problem.

So, switching to Chrome could solve your problem. Click here to go to the web app. Here’s what you should see when you log in to the web app.

If you don’t already have an Amazon account, you can click to create one.  Once open, it looks very much like the options on the smartphone app.

If you have questions during setup, try clicking on Help & Feedback. Also, don’t be afraid to contact Amazon’s customer service. They’ve been very helpful the times that I’ve needed help with my Echo.
