I can’t believe that 2022 is almost over! 2021is right around the corner, and it feels like the past year has flown by so fast.

I’m feeling particularly introspective right now about the events of the last year. I think that is a good thing since I’ve encountered a lot of changes in 2021.

Part of this introspection has been about figuring out what I’ve accomplished in the past year so I can set new goals for 2022. That’s what got me thinking about where New Year customs come from. Why do we make New Year resolutions? I decided to find out, and discovered that the Old Farmer’s Almanac has a nice page on New Year Traditions from Around the World.

I like that this goes through a whole list of different traditions and describes where they were celebrated historically. I mean, did you know that the tradition of setting a New Year’s Resolution is thought to date back to 2600 B.C. with the Babylonians? I didn’t.

This is a cool way to learn about the traditions celebrated on New Year’s Eve and Day, so go check it out for yourself!
