I was so thrilled when Cyn passed this site along to me to write up, because Colleen Moore’s Fairy Castle is absolutely enchanting.
When you arrive at the site you’ll be on the Overview. As you scroll down the page, you’ll be able to see the dollhouse from multiple angles and learn snippets of information about it.
After you’ve checked that out, I suggest that you head over to the Exhibit section where you can explore the doll house room by room. The attention detail is incredible! The Great Hall, Chapel, and Library are some of my favorite rooms.
The next section to visit is The Story where you’ll learn all about the Colleen Moore, the Fairy Castle, and how it ended up at the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago.
Do not miss out on the Video section. You can watch conservators reassemble the dollhouse in under three minutes. It is a fascinating watch! I loved the detail that the flatware and glasses were so small that they wore masks to prevent inhaling them!
I want to get over to Chicago even more now! Go see the fairy castle for yourself.

From age 2 up until my last return to Chicago at about age 68, I have seen this wonder about 45 times. You could spend hours admiring the rooms one by one. This is a true work of art and not “virtual reality” which would make it a greater attraction than Disney World (I now live close to there). If you are heading anywhere near Chicago, make a side trip to the Museum of Science and Industry. There are many, many other exhibits that could consume a couple days of your time. Also nearby are other museums, aquarium, planetarium and even the lake shore and parks that are worthy of your time.
