Protect your WordPad template

A few weeks back, I showed you how to create a custom “template” in WordPad. (You can click here to read that article.)

A reader named Merna reminded me that it’s important to make sure that you can’t overwrite that template.  Here’s how to make sure that file or any other document you don’t want to be changed can be protected.

Once you’ve created and named your file, click on Windows Explorer.

Find your file. (Probably in documents.)

Right-click and select Properties.

Click the General tab. In Attributes, tick the box next to Read-only and click Apply or OK.

You won’t be able to save over the file. Any document created with it will need to be saved with its own name.
